Inside Line Promotions – PAIGE, Texas (Aug. 26, 2015) – Channin Tankersley described last weekend as “eventful.”

Tankersley was involved in incidents each night during the ASCS Gulf South Region doubleheader, which resulted in him dropping to third in the championship standings – 47 points out of the lead – with only two races remaining this season.

“It wasn’t the weekend I wanted because we took a big hit in the points,” he said. “We’re not going to give up. Anything can happen. It’s a long shot, but we still have a chance to win the championship.”

Last weekend began at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, on Friday, when Tankersley finished where he started – third – in a heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the seventh row for the main event.

“On Friday night the track was super fast and getting rough,” he said. “I started midpack and I was running seventh or eighth about halfway through the feature when we broke a fuel fitting. When it did it caught the car on fire. It was pretty sketchy. I was going into a corner and the car just died. I was looking at my gauges and I saw where the firewall was there were some flames coming into the cockpit so I ejected out of there.”

Tankersley was unable to restart the race and he was credited with a 16th-place result.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Cotton Bowl Speedway, where he advanced from fifth to fourth place in a heat race. That put him 10th in overall points to start the feature on the outside of the fifth row.

“Going into the first corner I got bottled up,” he said. “Somebody hit me in the front end, which flattened a tire and knocked the nose wing off. We put a new tire on, but didn’t have time to put a nose wing on in the work area.”

Tankersley restarted at the back of the field and he rallied to an eighth-place finish, which marked his 12th top 10 of the season.

“I was pretty happy with the hustle of the team,” he said. “We came from 20th to eighth without a nose wing. We had a good car that would have been top two or three for sure if that accident hadn’t happened.”

Tankersley will take this weekend off before returning to action Sept. 4-5 at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas, for the 14th annual Gulf South Championship Weekend.
