Inside Line Promotions – WACO, Texas (June 9, 2014) – Sam Hafertepe Jr. took advantage of a rained out weekend with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour to record his second ASCS regional triumph of the season.

After last Friday’s ASCS National Tour race at Lexington 104 Speedway in Lexington, Tenn., was postponed because of weather, Hafertepe Jr. hauled an hour and a half to compete with the ASCS Gulf South Region at Heart O’Texas Speedway.

He kicked off the event by advancing from fifth to second place in his heat race, which earned enough points to make the feature redraw. Hafertepe Jr. pulled the No. 2 in the random draw to start the 25-lap main event on the outside of the front row.

“We pretty much led from green to checkered,” he said. “We had quite a few cautions in there. We were able to maintain on all the restarts.”

Despite moments of heavy traffic on the slick track, Hafertepe Jr. hustled around the bottom groove en route to the win, which was his second victory in the last six races this season.

“I’ve ran a lot of laps there,” he said. “When I first started racing sprint cars I ran there a lot. I know when it’s late in the night you need to hit your marks on the bottom.”

Following the win, Hafertepe Jr. and his team headed to I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., for Saturday’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour race.

“We blew a tire on our truck on the way down,” he said. “It tried to pull us right off the highway. We thought we were going to be late and then it rained out.”

After the bad luck en route to the race, the event was postponed because of rain.

Hafertepe Jr. is scheduled to compete this Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, for the start of the Bob Westphal Memorial Cup Speedweek with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. Hafertepe Jr. recorded his first win of the season at the half-mile track on May 17.
